This is a Satellite view of the sulfer oxide (SO2) content. The visualization shows the amount of SO2 is being released on the planet over the northern hemisphere. In the grand scheme of things it is a very small amount being released but is evident if you know where to look. There are other area's in Russia where there is possibly more SO2 being released then by the volcano. The volcano differs in that it is a single source of SO2 where the many blips are likely numerous factories or other activities causing it.
