Network Visualizations

Network visualizations are the best visualizations to show a web of connection between people. I find this network fascinating because of two reasons. One reason is because it reveals the true interlinked intimacy that all the students have with each other. However, it's also interesting because if the designer didn't specifically choose a network graph, the intimacy between the students would not have been revealed. For example, if we asked each person how many boyfriends/girlfriends they had and placed it on a bar chart, it would only tell us the average number of boyfriends/girlfriends these high schoolers have. It wouldn't have told us that most of these girlfriends/boyfriends they have are from the same group of friends. Thus, this graph is not only interesting by itself, it reveals the complexity of the decisions that information visualizers have to make.
